If you walk into any Wal-Mart (or Tesco, or any other major grocery store type chain store), you'll clearly see that it's almost time for Easter.  My Mom's side of the family always gathered at my Grandma's, where she would cook a huge meal for close to 30 people.  Ham, deviled eggs, green beans ... a true, Southern, home-style meal.

This week's recipe is Hasenpfeffer Stew.  I know ... Rabbit Stew on a holiday that is dominated by the Easter Bunny.  But this stuff is SO good, and I thought it might be a nice alternative to the traditional ham or turkey.  So, cook at warning, if you have small children. :-)

March 17, celebrated by some as St Patrick's Day.
i thought i'd share the following i found several years ago:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

[I'm actually celebrating today as the feast day of St Gertrude of Nivelles, the patron saint of [amongst other things} cats!]

Having an actual night off to sit down and find some good recipes, I bring you this week's recipes a day early.  This week was beautiful ... sunny and in the mid-70s.  Today, we had 4 inches of ice and snow.  Go figure.

Passover is just over the horizon, and this week I bring you two dishes ... a main course and a side dish.  Enjoy!

Sorry for the late entry.  This past weekend, we (my family and I) were cleaning out my Grandfather's house, as we just settled the estate and are getting ready to sell it.

Since last week's recipe went over so well, I decided to do another vegetarian recipe, especially for Lent.

This week's recipe isn't specifically faith related, but I seem to pick so many recipes that feature meat, so I wanted to find a good vegetarian dish.  Thai food is one of my favorites out there, and I love tofu .... so this is a combo of both.

When I was at the grocery store a couple days ago, I noticed that there were tons of St. Patrick's Day items.  This week I bring to you one of my all time favorite St. Patty's Day recipe . . .  Corned Beef and Cabbage.  My Grandma T (an Irish Catholic her whole life, who believed in lepercans until the day she died) would make this, and my Dad loved it.    And what is St. Patty's Day without a good spirited beverage?  I've also included a recipe for Traditional Irish Cream.

Pancake toppings [Feb. 20th, 2007|08:08 am]

This year, the Western and Eastern Christian churches are celebrating Easter at the same time, which means Passover is just before.
Today is Shrove Tuesday [sometimes called 'Pancake Tuesday'], tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.

In my opinion, the best [only?] topping for a pancake is caster sugar with fresh lemon juice squeezed over it. A wonderful mix of sweet and sour [but then, i really don't like sweet things].
what's your favourite pancake topping, and why?

First off, I do realize that the tags are not working properly.  If anyone has a better idea of how to edit/work tags, please let me know.  I thought I knew what I was doing, but I guess I need a little more support on it! LOL  I think the problem is that there are too many tags, but again, I'm not sure.  I can knit socks, but I can't edit tags ... LOL!    I do think that I got the tags working ... it just appears that you can't chose more then 3 tags per entry.

On to the Weekly Recipe.  On March 4th/5th, our Jewish friends celebrate Purim!  So, since food is such a big part of this holiday, I present a yummy dumpling style recipe to enjoy!  Goes great with soup, or alone as an appitizer.  I've also included directions for a meat and a non-meat filling.  Enjoy!

Happy Chinese New Year.

I have a friend who was born in Taiwan. his mother prepared pork spare ribs for a BBQ by marinading them in soy sauce into which she had chopped some garlic.

simple, but beautiful.  [and perfectly acceptable to my own extremely restricted diet!]

i was told it was a very tasty way of roasting pork  [in the special BBQ roaster] as well. just remember to baste with the marinade.

obvoiusly, i'll replace the chicken with pork strips i shall have marinaded, and will replace the oyster sauce with the remains of the marinade.

i'm also pretty certain that this may be 'tweaked'  to suit a lot of dietary requirements

[off-topic, but i *must* hunt out my picture of the flying pig i have hanging up, and make it into an icon for this special year. ;D ]

Good morning everyone!  I'm happy to say that I'm done moving into the new apartment, and am back to focus on the LJ a little more.  I'll be working on the tags soon, but first, the Weekly Recipe!

Clean Monday and Ash Wednesday is next week, hence the time of Lent.  So this week, I bring to you a non-meaty recipe.
